Is it Dangerous for Me to Groom My Cat at Home?

And professional cat groomers will always be around to help you out. For those of you that would like to stretch your time in-between professional grooms out a tad, or even better, for those of you that are hardcore diy-ers, we understand where you’re coming from too! Is it a little scary at first? Sure. But did your parent’s let their fear of you crashing your bike stop them from teaching you how to ride? NO! They strapped a helmet on you to protect that melon of yours and sent you on your way. We’re about to do the same. Continue reading Is it Dangerous for Me to Groom My Cat at Home?

Nail Caps -(Doesn’t sound controversial, right?) Think again.

We are no strangers to controversy- our reels on Instagram regularly generate dozens of negative comments, albeit mostly from youngsters, but the point is nothing really shocks us anymore. We usually know exactly what is going to get people riled up when we decide to do a video or post. Recently, however; we were taken completely off guard when an innocent little video of Whitney … Continue reading Nail Caps -(Doesn’t sound controversial, right?) Think again.

“Can My Groomer Fire Me?”

Yes- but let’s discuss what you did to get to this point first! I don’t want to burst anyone’s bubble today, but yes. Your groomer can fire you. So can your veterinarian, your dentist, your accountant, and your hair stylist. Anyone who owns their own business that provides a service to you can theoretically decide that you are no longer worth the effort. It’s one … Continue reading “Can My Groomer Fire Me?”

The Truth About Black Cats & Halloween

Once and For All… I’m sure you all know that black cats have long been associated with Halloween…but why? Is it solely because black things are stereotyped as dark and mysterious? I realized that in my many years of working with cats, and actually owning a black cat myself, I really didn’t know the answer either. Next thing you know I’m on the dark web … Continue reading The Truth About Black Cats & Halloween

Does Every Cat Need Grooming?

It’s not a one time thing. It’s not just an old cat thing. And it’s certainly not just a long-hair cat thing. Every single cat can benefit from regular grooming sessions, whether it is you doing the grooming at home (YES- we love it when people home groom!) or whether you would rather let a professional do the dirty work. Regular grooming removes loose hair to prevent excessive shedding and hairballs, keeps nails from growing into paw pads, and can prevent matting, urinary tract infections, and even litter box issues Continue reading Does Every Cat Need Grooming?

“Which Tools Should I Use to Groom My Cat at Home?”

How does the saying go? ‘There’s more than one way to skin a cat’? While I’d rather not think about the origin of that phrase, we all know what it means. Basically, there’s more than way to go about completing most tasks, and that phrase ironically applies to grooming a cat just as it does skinning one. In this post I’ll tell you what tools we use to professionally groom cats in the salon, and I’ll also give less-costly alternatives that get the job done for those of you at home that don’t want to invest $60 in a comb or $350 for a blow-dryer. Capiche? Let’s get started. Continue reading “Which Tools Should I Use to Groom My Cat at Home?”

Why is Cat Grooming So Expensive?

Let’s start with the fact that it’s not easy and no one wants to do it… A client (who shall remain unnamed) told me he had a good idea for a blog post the other day. This gentleman, a regular client, had just taken his two GSD’s in for grooming at a dog salon. His total bill for two large dog grooms was-uh- how do … Continue reading Why is Cat Grooming So Expensive?

Is it Okay to Scruff My Cat?

So how do you control a cat that is trying to escape, or attack during a procedure? You can’t put a leash on them for control (yes you can put one on them for fun- as a novelty… “Look at me, I’m walking my cat!” But let me see what happens when a fire truck goes by while you’re walking your cat on a leash. Just sayin’- it ain’t gonna end well. What you CAN do to safely control and calm a cat when needed is grab them firmly by the scruff of the neck with one hand, and use the other hand to hold their back legs. Why Does My Cat Spray?

Why Do Cats Spray Indoors And Can You Stop it?? Maybe one of the most common questions we get asked is “why does my cat spray indoors? The answer is surprisingly simple. In your cat’s world this is perfectly normal behavior. This is how cats communicate with each other in the wild, it’s kind of like you posting a status update on Facebook, or uploading … Continue reading Why Does My Cat Spray?

Do Calming and Behavior Tonics Work for Cats

I’m not a scientist, but I’m going to give you my opinion on it anyway. Take it or leave it. Pet owners are sometimes desperate people. Their unconditional love and affection knows no bounds, but their knowledge of animal behavior and anatomy definitely does. I’m constantly reminded that the average person has no idea how to express their pet’s anal glands, trim their nails, or … Continue reading Do Calming and Behavior Tonics Work for Cats

You’re Cat Wasn’t Abused- it’s Just an A$shole.

So where’s the downside, you may be asking yourself? That happens, my friends, when that little bottle-baby comes back for his annual exam exactly 12 months later and doesn’t seem to remember or even give one single f@ck how many sleepless nights you spent caring for him before his little eyes were even open. He only wants one thing- to shred you into tiny little pieces with his perfectly honed nails (naturally he’s too spoiled for his owners to attempt trimming them at home). Y’all…this little guy wasn’t abused- he was the exact opposite- HE WAS CODDLED- like a precious egg. And he’s just an a$shole. Continue reading You’re Cat Wasn’t Abused- it’s Just an A$shole.

“How do I choose a good veterinarian for my cat?”

The answer is both surprisingly simple and complicated at the same time. Let me tell you why… No, I’m not a veterinarian. I have, however, worked with vets since I was a teenager. I’ve known good ones, bad ones, funny ones, sexy ones, moody ones, the list goes on. They aren’t all the same- not by a long shot. That shouldn’t be too surprising since … Continue reading “How do I choose a good veterinarian for my cat?”

“Do Plastic Bowls Cause Chin Acne”

The jury is still out on this one. Let’s talk about it. I’ve been letting the comments on Instagram lead the way for the blog lately, after-all, why not answer the questions people are actually asking vs thinking of a new topic? This week is no exception. My Cutest Holiday Cat Photos of 2021

For me, one of the best parts of grooming cats is taking their photo afterwards. I’ve probably invested in every kind of photo contraption around; fancy cameras, light rings, light boxes, you name it. I’ve bought every type of cat costume that ever existed (even a cat stripper costume- thank you Etsy), all in the name of getting that perfect photo for their owner! Why is Cat Grooming suddenly “a Thing?”

It’s kind of fascinating, isn’t it? At least that’s the reaction I receive when someone asks me what I do for a living. “That’s a thing?,” has been said to me on multiple occasions. Five Cat Products that You Should Definitely Have in Your Home!

Why can’t we adopt AND shop?

We can. It’s stupid to judge people because they purchased a purebred animal. I’m going to tell you why. Being that I’ve been absolutely cat-crazy since a young age, I’ve owned a lot of cats in my life. I’ve had males and females, long-haired and short-haired (and most recently- NO haired). I’ve had tiny cats and huge cats, shelter cats and purebred cats. Not one …

Learn How to Trim Your Cat’s Nails (and Take Back Control of Your House)

If you’ve tried, and tried, and tried… but you’re just not gaining any ground with the nail trims- let me introduce a little something called a Happy Hoodie. No- we didn’t invent them- a very smart groomer did- but, we do LOVE them! They are a complete game-changer for some cats. Have you ever put a Halloween costume on a pet? You know how sometimes they just kinda freeze-up and fall over when you put it on them? Well, sometimes the Happy Hoodie has a similar effect. I’d say it calms down 75% of the cats we put it on.
